THE WARD YOUNG MEMORIAL AWARD
The money for this project was donated in memory of Ward Young by many of his friends among the early members of the Siberian Husky Club of Canada. The award honors the dog achieving the highest combined score within a single year in Conformation Showing, Racing, and Obedience competition.
The rules for the award are as follows:
No.1 ,
The dog must be a registered Siberian Husky.
No. 2
The dog must be owned by a member of the Siberian Husky Club of Canada in the year that the events qualifying him/her for the Award took place.
No.3
The events qualifying the dog for the Award must all take place in the same calendar year, using the Siberian Husky Club of Canada year - Sept 1st to Aug 31st.
No.4
The dog must receive points in all three disciplines to qualify.
No.5
Only one set of points in each category can be used to qualify for the Award - i.e. one show, one obedience trial,
and one race.
The points will be based on the following scales, and the dog obtaining the highest number of points as a grand total will be the winner of the Ward Young Award.
CONFORMATION SHOWING
Best In Show - 200 points
Group 1st - 175 points
Group 2nd - 125 points
Group 3rd - 100 points
Group 4th - 75 points
Best Of Breed - 25 points
Best of Opposite Sex - 15 points
Best of Winners - 10 points
Winners Dog - 5 points
Winners Bitch - 5 points
Prior points are superseded by a win at a higher level, i.e. points are not accumulative, 200 being the maximum number of points granted.
OBEDIENCE
The dog's highest qualifying score will be the number of points earned, as this is out of 200.
The following classes will count towards eligibility for the Obedience portion of this award:
Novice A/B, Open A/B, Utility A/B
A dog must have a qualifying score in one of the above classes
No Transitional classes will count towards qualification (ie: Novice C, Novice Intermediate)
RACING
According to ISDRA formula, which is based on distance, purse and the number of teams starting the first heat, and applies to the top ten placing teams per race, a race being the total time of the heats. They do NOT have to be ISDRA sanctioned races.
Dogs in Canada will be the 'OFFICIAL' publication for Show and Obedience results.
Team and Trail and the SHCC Newsletter will be the 'OFFICIAL' publications for race results.
Dogs qualifying for the Award should be submitted to the President each year and the Award will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Siberian Husky Club of Canada.
When submitting a dog to the President, please state the following information:
Dog's Registered Name ~ CKC Registration Number ~ Owner's Name, Placing for Show ~ Highest Qualifying Obedience Score, Race Name, Date, Distance, Purse, Placing, & Total Number of Teams starting the first heat
